OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE PINK SPIDERS

From Last.fm:

" Nashville, Tennessee, United States (2002 – present)
The Pink Spiders is an American punk band that take influence from punk rock, power pop, and soul music. Formed in 2002, the band is from Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The band consists of Matt Friction (lead guitar and vocals), Joe Reilly (guitar and vocals) and Raf Cevallos (keyboards, vocals, and percussion). Because of unknown circumstances, founding bassist Jon Decious and founding drummer Bob Ferrari were fired from the band in mid-2008. Because of this, many fans are divided in their further support of the band.

Matt and Jon Decious (ex-bassist) stormed the Nashville music scene in 2001. Matt had his hit band Silent Friction, and when SF broke up they remade musical connection with Bob Ferrari (ex-drummer) to form The Pink Spiders in late 2002, and by January of 2004, the band recorded their first EP, called The Pink Spiders are Taking Over!. They signed with CI Records in the summer of 2004. A mere three months after their EP was released, several major-label offers were on the table, and, in April of 2005, the band signed with Geffen Records. The Pink Spiders have since been named as one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands you need to know in 2006.”

The Pink Spiders released their major label debut on August 1st, 2006, entitled Teenage Graffiti. The first single, PlayLittle Razorblade, debuted on MTV’s Total Request Live as a premiere.

They have been known for their catchy tunes and bad attitudes, and also for wearing pink. They have shouted things to the crowds such as ‘We’re The Pink Spiders, and you’re not.’"

Death Cab for Cutie

OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

From Wikipedia:
"Death Cab for Cutie is a Grammy nominated American indie rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band consists of Benjamin Gibbard (vocals, guitar), Chris Walla (guitar, production), Nick Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums). Gibbard took the band name from the title of the song written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and performed by their group, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, in The Beatles' 1967 film, Magical Mystery Tour.

Gibbard's first album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, was released as a demo, leading to a record deal with Barsuk Records. It was at this time that Gibbard decided to expand the project into a complete band, and recruited band members to join. The band has released six studio albums, five EPs, and one demo to date. Their most recent album, Narrow Stairs, was released on May 12, 2008 in the United Kingdom and on May 13, 2008 in the United States."

Phantom Planet (07/09/09)

Phantom Planet

Photobucket

OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF PHANTOM PLANET

From Wikipedia:
"Phantom Planet is named after the theme song of a 1961 B-movie called The Phantom Planet. They decided on the name in 1994 in a Pizza Hut.[citation needed] They played their first show in 1994 at The Troubadour in Hollywood, California. Most of their friends could not attend because they were still in high school.

Phantom Planet released their debut album, Phantom Planet is Missing in 1998. A straightforward pop record, with influences ranging from The Beach Boys to Electric Light Orchestra, the album didn't catch on. It was after the band's second album, The Guest in 2002 that the band found success. It produced the popular song, "California". The Guest continued the pop-rock sound the band introduced in their debut.

The band's eponymous third album in 2004 marked a change in both the band's sound and lineup. Ditching their radio-friendly pop-rock, the band moved towards a garage rock sound. Lead singer Alex Greenwald stated that he wants the band to continue to change its sound. "I love rock 'n' roll music," Greenwald said. "I especially loved bands, like The Beatles, that changed with every single record they made. That's been our plan from the get-go. We want our records to be like experiments. We want to have fun with the music. People can hear when you're not having fun. They discover you're bored and you're boring."[1] However, in the middle of recording the album, founding member and drummer Jason Schwartzman abruptly left the band to focus on his acting career. He was replaced by Jeff Conrad, who helped record the remainder of the album. Phantom Planet was released to mixed reviews from critics. Shortly after the album's release, guitarist Jacques Brautbar left the band to pursue a career in photography."

Breathe Carolina

From Last.fm:
"Breathe Carolina is an electro-pop duo from Denver, Colorado. Their music is comprised of synthesized beats and tag-teamed, vocoded vocals ranging from melodic harmonies to abrasive screaming. They have released one iTunes album titled “Gossip”, and released their first hard-copy album, “It’s Classy, Not Classic” on Sept. 16th, 2008. Their second album has been recorded, “Hello Fascination”, and is set for release on August 18, 2009.

Breathe Carolina wrote and recorded It’s Classy, Not Classic as a duo, with David producing, in their home studio. Although this is David’s first stage venture as a vocalist, his chemistry and camaraderie with Kyle leveled the learning curve. For live shows they recruited a full band, including a guitarist, two keyboard players, and a DJ."

As Tall As Lions (07/08/09)

As Tall As Lions

OFFICIAL WEBSITE FOR AS TALL AS LIONS

From Last.fm:
"After coming off the road in mid-2005, following months of touring in support of their Triple Crown debut, Lafcadio, Long Island-based band As Tall As Lions – vocalist/guitarist Daniel Nigro, guitarist Saen Fitzgerald, bassist Julio Tavarez and drummer Cliff Sarcona – spent more than half a year channeling their energies into crafting an album that would not only realize the lofty ambitions of these four young men but define them as a band, once and for all. The resulting self-titled album - released August 8, 2006 on Triple Crown/East West - provides dramatic evidence that they met this self-imposed challenge, and then some.

As Tall As Lions’ journey toward maturation began in casual fashion, the original version of the band forming around Fitzgerald while the members were still in high school. During the next few years, they endured the lineup changes and artistic roadblocks many young bands experience before taking their present, permanent form. But they still had some growing to do.

“When we started doing Lafcadio, we really didn’t understand what we were getting ourselves into – we were just kids” says Nigro. “We had made a couple demos, put them on the Internet and, after a couple of days, we had record labels calling us ready to sign the band. We all thought this whole band thing was going to come too easily after that. We dropped out of college and made As Tall As Lions our priority. At first, it was a tough adjustment. We’d never been on tour before, and getting used to life on the road was draining. I think we’ve all grown up a lot since then, and our attitude has changed for the better. We put everything we had into this new record and are extremely happy with how it came out.”"

OFFICIAL SITE OF IMOGEN HEAP

From last.fm:
" Romford, Essex, England (1998 – present)
Imogen Heap (born December 9, 1977) is a British singer-songwriter / electronica artist from Romford, Essex, England. She grew up playing music from an early age, and by her eleventh birthday she was writing her own songs. From the age of 15, she studied at the BRIT School Of Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon, South London, recording three tracks for the school’s annual CD between 1994 and 1995, “Aliens” being the title track of the latter.

Heap enjoyed a prestigious live debut, performing four songs (backed by friends Acacia) between sets by The Who and Eric Clapton at the 1996 Prince’s Trust Concert in Hyde Park, London. Her debut album, I Megaphone (an anagram of “Imogen Heap”) was internationally released in 1998 on independent record label Almo Sounds and garnered critical acclaim. However, as production of the album neared completion, it was announced that the record label had been sold and would be shut down. I-Megaphone featured collaborations with Guy Sigsworth and Dave Stewart. In Japan, the regional distributor, Zora, re-released the album in 2002, featuring “Blanket,” her collaboration with Urban Species which was released as a single in the United Kingdom, and a Frou Frou remix of one of her B-sides, a video to which was released exclusively to Japanese media. Following the disbanding of her UK and USA record label, I Megaphone was scarce in circulation, having not been re-printed until November 2006. An independent Brazillian record label has rights to the record, and has issued limited copies, some of which are available on eBay."

Jack's Mannequin (07/06/09)

Jack's Mannequin

JACK'S MANNEQUIN'S OFFICIAL SITE

From last.fm:
"Jack’s Mannequin is the solo project of Andrew McMahon who is also the vocalist, pianist and main songwriter of the band Something Corporate. The name Jack’s Mannequin originated from one of McMahon’s songs called Dear Jack, which was written about a friend of his whose brother was diagnosed with childhood leukemia. Andrew himself was diagnosed with leukemia on June 1, 2005 and cancelled a show for the first time ever when he received the call from his doctor.

The initial impulse behind McMahon’s solo project Jack’s Mannequin was Locked Doors, a song he recorded in December 2003, which he felt was too different from previous Something Corporate material to be one of their songs. He realized that, if he would ever decide to release it, it would be on a solo album rather than a Something Corporate record. The idea seemed to be off the table, until in late summer 2004 both McMahon and his bandmates were exhausted from months of touring. They decided to take a temporary break. During his time off, McMahon started writing songs, knowing they would not see the light of day as Something Corporate songs. These songs were a more therapeutic approach McMahon took, and therefore a more personal and intimate testament of his songwriting."
