OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

From Wikipedia:
"Death Cab for Cutie is a Grammy nominated American indie rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band consists of Benjamin Gibbard (vocals, guitar), Chris Walla (guitar, production), Nick Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums). Gibbard took the band name from the title of the song written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and performed by their group, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, in The Beatles' 1967 film, Magical Mystery Tour.

Gibbard's first album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, was released as a demo, leading to a record deal with Barsuk Records. It was at this time that Gibbard decided to expand the project into a complete band, and recruited band members to join. The band has released six studio albums, five EPs, and one demo to date. Their most recent album, Narrow Stairs, was released on May 12, 2008 in the United Kingdom and on May 13, 2008 in the United States."

Phantom Planet (07/09/09)

Phantom Planet

OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF PHANTOM PLANET

From Wikipedia:
"Phantom Planet is named after the theme song of a 1961 B-movie called The Phantom Planet. They decided on the name in 1994 in a Pizza Hut.[citation needed] They played their first show in 1994 at The Troubadour in Hollywood, California. Most of their friends could not attend because they were still in high school.

Phantom Planet released their debut album, Phantom Planet is Missing in 1998. A straightforward pop record, with influences ranging from The Beach Boys to Electric Light Orchestra, the album didn't catch on. It was after the band's second album, The Guest in 2002 that the band found success. It produced the popular song, "California". The Guest continued the pop-rock sound the band introduced in their debut.

The band's eponymous third album in 2004 marked a change in both the band's sound and lineup. Ditching their radio-friendly pop-rock, the band moved towards a garage rock sound. Lead singer Alex Greenwald stated that he wants the band to continue to change its sound. "I love rock 'n' roll music," Greenwald said. "I especially loved bands, like The Beatles, that changed with every single record they made. That's been our plan from the get-go. We want our records to be like experiments. We want to have fun with the music. People can hear when you're not having fun. They discover you're bored and you're boring."[1] However, in the middle of recording the album, founding member and drummer Jason Schwartzman abruptly left the band to focus on his acting career. He was replaced by Jeff Conrad, who helped record the remainder of the album. Phantom Planet was released to mixed reviews from critics. Shortly after the album's release, guitarist Jacques Brautbar left the band to pursue a career in photography."

Imogen Heap

OFFICIAL SITE OF IMOGEN HEAP

From last.fm:
" Romford, Essex, England (1998 – present)
Imogen Heap (born December 9, 1977) is a British singer-songwriter / electronica artist from Romford, Essex, England. She grew up playing music from an early age, and by her eleventh birthday she was writing her own songs. From the age of 15, she studied at the BRIT School Of Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon, South London, recording three tracks for the school’s annual CD between 1994 and 1995, “Aliens” being the title track of the latter.

Heap enjoyed a prestigious live debut, performing four songs (backed by friends Acacia) between sets by The Who and Eric Clapton at the 1996 Prince’s Trust Concert in Hyde Park, London. Her debut album, I Megaphone (an anagram of “Imogen Heap”) was internationally released in 1998 on independent record label Almo Sounds and garnered critical acclaim. However, as production of the album neared completion, it was announced that the record label had been sold and would be shut down. I-Megaphone featured collaborations with Guy Sigsworth and Dave Stewart. In Japan, the regional distributor, Zora, re-released the album in 2002, featuring “Blanket,” her collaboration with Urban Species which was released as a single in the United Kingdom, and a Frou Frou remix of one of her B-sides, a video to which was released exclusively to Japanese media. Following the disbanding of her UK and USA record label, I Megaphone was scarce in circulation, having not been re-printed until November 2006. An independent Brazillian record label has rights to the record, and has issued limited copies, some of which are available on eBay."

Semi Precious Weapons (06/28/09)

Semi Precious Weapons

Photobucket

SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS OFFICIAL SITE

From last.fm: "Semi Precious Weapons is known as NYC’s garage glam rock heroes. Having only formed in August of 2005, their buzz and fan base would suggest that of a band that has been at it for years. Their outlandish rock and roll show is getting some serious attention from all types of New Yorkers, and after extremely successful east coast and mid-west tours this summer and fall, a sold out September NYC residency and with THE Tony Visconti (T-rex, David Bowie, Morrisey) producing new tracks for Semi Precious Weapons, the whole country is starting to catch on. Crazy teenagers, fashionistas, guitar geeks and businessmen who want to look at the freaks are all coming out to the shows and having an amazing time together. It is a Semi Precious World!

The word of SPW is also spreading very fast due to the Jewelry line inspired by the bands gun and heart logo that lead singer, Justin Precious Tranter, has created. The jewelry line is selling out all over the country at Urban Outfitters, and a high-end version is now being sold at Barneys, NY. The jewelry and the band will be featured in “Teen People,” “Marie Claire,” and “CosmoGirl” this coming fall. Forget J-Lo and P-Diddy, this borderline tranny is the new face of cross marketing!

The other exciting part of the Semi Precious Weapons story is their undeniable musicianship and songwriting skills, but who really gives a fuck about that! Whether its a costume change, a hit song, a vocal range, a guitar solo, or an on stage fight that brings the hundreds of people out to their shows isnt the point."
